Juventas is an innovative and forward-thinking organisation focused on delivering high-quality services to vulnerable children and young people. We care for looked-after children in residential and semi-independent supported accommodation so they can live a positive and meaningful life as they approach adulthood.

We provide support to Unaccompanied Asylum-Seeking Children (UASC) to provide them with the necessary guidance to enable them to positively settle into life in the UK. Our award-winning UASC service provides housing and key work support to 16- to 18-year-old young people as they transition from first arrival into the UK through to living meaningfully and independently.

We're now looking for an enthusiastic and dedicated Transitions Support Advisor to provide support, guidance and key work to young people who may have limited English language skills on arrival, helping them navigate living successfully in a new country and preparing them for the next stage of their lives.

The role

Reporting to one of two Team Managers, as Transitions Support Advisor you will:

• Work on a flexible basis to provide cover for staff absence and holidays to meet the needs of the young people you are supporting
• Be part of a small, dedicated, passionate and inclusive team ensuring that all young people have their needs met, their welfare promoted at all times and that they are safeguarded from harm, abuse, neglect and exploitation
• Ensure that all UASC are supported to attend legal appointments with regard to their immigration status
• Act as a keyworker to young people, ensuring that all relevant young people's records are kept up to date
• Liaise with social workers, solicitors, the Home Office, personal advisors, GPs, education staff, voluntary agencies, parents and carers
• Organise and support structured activities consistent with young people gaining independent living skills
• Organise leisure activities as required in consultation with young people.
• Respond to and record any safeguarding issues in relation to young people in line with Juventas policies
• Ensure a timely response to any young people's concerns
• Participate in and contribute to regular staff meetings
• Ensure that young people's risk assessments are kept up to date
• Set high standards in respect to your own professional conduct and development

The ideal candidate

You'll have:

• A genuine interest in the welfare of the people you support and a belief in each person's potential and strengths

• The ability to cope with challenging situations (with support from the rest of the team) and maintain clear professional boundaries
• The ability to plan, prioritise and organise your own workload and time
• Empathy, adaptability and flexibility in how you offer support
• A compassionate, trustworthy and honest attitude
• Full UK Driving Licence and willingness to obtain business insurance
• NVQ Level 3 in Health and Social Care (Children and Young People) or willingness to study for this after probation is passed
• A knowledge of childcare legislation
• A knowledge of looking after children/young people
• An understanding of adolescent development
• An understanding of broader childcare legislation and policy
